FAQs

Everything worth knowing before you book.

What licence do I need?

A standard car licence (Code B or equivalent) covers every vehicle in our fleet. International visitors need their national licence in English, or an international driving permit alongside it.

What is the minimum rental period?

Five nights in peak season (December to February) and three nights for the rest of the year.

Is camping equipment included?

Yes. Every rental includes bedding, towels, a full kitchen inventory, camp chairs and a table at no extra cost.

Can I take the motorhome into neighbouring countries?

Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini are permitted with prior arrangement and a cross-border letter, which we prepare for you.

How does insurance work?

All rentals include standard cover with an excess. Two reduction options are available at collection, including a zero-excess plan.

Where can I sleep overnight?

South Africa has an excellent network of licensed campsites and private farm stays. We send a curated list of our favourites with every confirmed booking.

How do I know my booking is legitimate?

We completely understand that customers want to feel comfortable before making any payment. You are more than welcome to arrange an appointment to meet us in person at our main offices in Sea Point, Cape Town, have a coffee with the team and discuss your booking.

If you would like to physically view one of the camper vans, we can also arrange to meet you at the collection point near Cape Town International Airport, subject to availability.

Most importantly, before you make any payment to us, you are welcome to contact Maui directly to verify that the booking exists and that we are authorised to transfer the booking into your name. Once you are comfortable and payment has been made, we will proceed with transferring the booking into your name with Maui.

How does the booking process work?

Cape Town Motorhome Rental acts as an agent for Maui. Once you have selected the motorhome and dates you would like to book, we will arrange the booking with Maui on your behalf.

Before making payment to us, you are welcome to contact Maui directly to verify that the booking exists and that we are authorised to transfer the booking into your name.

Once payment has been made to Cape Town Motorhome Rental, we will transfer the Maui booking into your name. From that point onward, you will deal directly with Maui for the remaining booking process and arrangements relating to your motorhome rental.
